Uneven Lens Coating
Lenses are coated by methods such as spin coating, vacuum deposition, or ion plating. If the lenses are charged with static electricity in the drying or transfer process, the coating will not be applied uniformly, resulting in uneven coating.
Conventional countermeasures
None
- There is a risk of delivering defective products that were overlooked during inspection.
- Lenses with defective coating should be discarded, which increases disposal cost.
Countermeasures with static eliminators (ionizers)
An ionizer reduces the risk of complaints and decreases disposal costs.
Improvements and Effects
Words from the worksite
Reduced costs for addressing complaints
Costs for addressing complaints (recall cost, on-site service travel cost, addressing cost): $30,000/year
Since customer complaints will affect subsequent business, it was crucial to improve the matter.
