Electronic Balance Showing Unstable Values
When an electronic balance is used for measuring weight, the measured value is sometimes unstable even when the windshields are closed to eliminate the influence of air movement.
This is because the force of static electricity works on the weighing dish due to electrostatic charge accumulated on the resin windshields or the worker.
Conventional countermeasures
The worker should wait until the value stabilizes.
- Loss in work efficiency (two to three minutes depending on the material)
- Powder scatters due to static electricity.
Countermeasures with static eliminators (ionizers)
An ionizer eliminates the static electricity and reduces the cost for waiting. Scattering of powder can also be prevented.
Improvements and Effects
Words from the worksite
Reduced cost of waiting time
Labor cost: $80/hour x Time for waiting 2 minutes x Number of measurements 10 times/day x 250 days = $6,700/year
In addition, the cost of disposing of expensive powder that scattered due to strong charges can also be reduced.
