Uneven Coating on Electronic PCBs
Uneven coating is a problem in the process of applying coating material for moisture prevention or electrical insulation of PCBs. The PCBs are easily charged with static electricity in the transfer process, and the coating material is charged when it is sprayed from the nozzle.
Conventional countermeasures
Humidification
- Condensation may occur.
- Prevents foreign particles from being blown out.
Countermeasures with static eliminators (ionizers)
Ionized air eliminates static electricity from the PCB while they are being coated, improving the yield rate.
Improvements and Effects
Words from the worksite
Reduced cost for addressing defective products
Disposal cost of defective lots: $5,000/year
Recall cost (transportation cost, on-site service travel cost, and cost of internal man-hours): $5,000/year
In addition, there are other resulting benefits of improved reliability.
