Pin Holes in Lithium Ion Battery Separators
Electrostatic charge is generated by the removal of the separator film for lithium ion batteries during unwinding or by friction during roll transfer.
When the charged film approaches the roller, electrostatic discharge occurs, which leaves pin holes (minute holes) in the film.
Conventional countermeasures
Conventional static eliminator
- The effect is uncertain.
- Maintenance requires a lot of work.
Countermeasures with static eliminators (ionizers)
An ionizer eliminates static electricity and prevents the adhesion of foreign particles, while providing a visual of the effect.
This is beneficial in preventing manufacturing failures.
Improvements and Effects
Words from the worksite
Reduced complaints due to foreign particles
Lithium ion batteries are used in mobile phones, laptop PCs, game consoles, and other mobile devices used by individual users. The possibility of any defects is a significant risk for companies.
This risk must be avoided at any cost.
